Mary Jane Girls - Boys

In '82 Prince came out with a girl group, Vanity 6. Not wanting to be outdone by his young, upstart nemesis, Rick James followed suit and put together Mary Jane Girls, producing their self titled debut album in 1983.

Despite the fact that only one member could actually sing and the bassline was lifted from another song, All Night Long is still probably one of the greatest funk / soul records of the '80s. In fact the entire album is solid, tracks like the one you're about to hear and Candy Man are certified bangers in our book. Enjoy.

3 From the Box - Ben Sun

Aussie disco selector Ben Sun has been a favourite of Boogie HQ for a while, and we were gutted to have missed him at our boys Unwanted's party a few months ago. Luckily for us, he's dug deep and put together a blinding 3 from the Box for us. If you're digging his tracks he's playing Shuush at Fire this Saturday. We'll let him take over from here....

L.U.P.O. -- Hell or Heaven
LUPO's moment in the sun! Perfect simple house music with an impossibly catchy riff. Bright and cool.

Nick Straker Band -- A Little Bit Of Jazz

Typical Prelude record, live disco with a progressive electronic sound. Such a musically rich record, but another one with a nice pop hook. What I would give to play with the studio stems of this track! Including the synth washes and background vocals around the 3:50 mark

Lil Louis -- Nyce And Slo (The Blow Horn Mix)

This is just a hot track, does what it says on the tin. I like this one more than the album version, it's a 7" B-side, you can get it cheaply. Funky as hell, and a seminal sound for the 90s.

Maxine Singleton - Don't You Love It (Beaten Space Probe edit)

Fuck yes, the sun's out and it's less than a week to Boogie Cartel at The Nest. Stop what you're doing, whack this on and start dancing. That is an order. Free hugs all round.

Curtis Hairston - I Want Your Lovin' (John Morales mix)

This bad boy is from the latest John Morales compilation. If you don't already know of John, he was part of the M&M production duo throughout the 80s, working on hundreds of disco, soul and boogie records with some of the day's finest artists. Over the past few years he's released some of his until-now-unheard remixes from that period on a series of compilations. The third one has just dropped, we recommend them all. He's also a great chap and has been to a Boogie Cartel night. Not that we like to namedrop you know....

Walkie Talkie - Wild West

The second release on Upper Cuts records just landed in our inbox. Belter. The Synthosphere EP comes courtesy of Walkie Talkie, a synthwave outfit from San Diego. We're also loving the Lynchian video below. Enjoy.

Luther Vandross - I Wanted Your Love

Big fat slice of Friday boogie cake from '84 courtesy of Luther Vandross. Honey dripped vocals as always. Don't forget we're a fortnight away from our next do at The Nest, the link's in the bar above, come down and get inappropriate. Peace x

Sister Sledge - Thinking of You (Dimitri from Paris remix)

There's only one record we can possibly put on when the sun shines as brightly as it has done for the past two days. So many good Boogie Cartel memories associated with this track - roof parties, afterparties, Rose sessions in the sun, the list goes on.

"What do you think brought the sun out today? It's love baby"
